ARTfight! weekTWO: "Why are you doing THAT?!"

weekONE is over, and a lot of good fights were fought. So now it's time for weekTWO of ARTfight!

If you're creating something, chances are you've been asked the question "Why are you doing THAT?" It's not just the non-creative people asking the question, its everybody.

So the challenge this week asks of you:

Why are you doing that? And what, exactly is "that" to begin with? This subject is open to all sorts of interpretation, just like last week. No limits, just ARTfighting.

weekONE submissions are still accepted, but start workin' on weekTWO. Look forward to seeing more of that sweet, sweet, ART ass-kicking this week!

ARTfight ONE: MUSICIAN

ARTfight WEEK ONE:

Music is a part of every artists life. Musicians can be overlooked by visual/fine artists, but they are a force to be reckoned with. What artist, fine, visual, or otherwise has not listened to some rad tunes as they create?

So, ARTfight Week ONE (May 17, 2010) has got ARTfighters everywhere drawin', writin' about, documenting, ranting, filming, singing, or whatever art form you choose to fight with, CREATING ART with ONE of their favorite musicians as the focal point. Pick a musician that has been inspirational, great, horrible, a drain on society, for you and ARTfight the hell out of them.

Art can be e-mailed to m.ENGER at art.fights@gmail.com throughout the week. Any file format. If you have a blog or online dumping ground for your art, you can e-mail the link and all will be well. ARTfight is accepting all forms of YOUR art, so don't rip anyone off. Just send your ARTfight our way and we'll make sure it gets up for the rest of the ARTfighters to see.

Let round one begin.

ARTfight...Let's kick Art's ass.

Are you an engaged English student? An angry art student? A ferocious film student?

Sick of all those guidelines we are forced to live by in everyday student and work-related life?

Ever wish you could just punch all those restrictive guidelines in the face?

Now you can. This is ARTfight. A place where artists of ALL kinds can come together to punch art in the face and show it what's what. There are no teachers here to restrict you, there are no grades to keep you from truly cuttin' loose. Just other disgruntled artists who want to draw their way everyday.

So, here's the purpose. School's out for summer, and you don't wanna let your mad skillz fade away durin' the summer. But oh wait, there is just soooo much other radical stuff you could be doing with your time. ARTfight is here to get you back in the creative ring and motivate you to kick some artistic ass.

ARTfight is a way to practice your art, anyway you choose. Mediums, sizes, and time spent are all relative. Your ARTfight for the week could be a three minute sketch on a post-it note, or a nine foot tall, thirteen hour painting. It is whatever you have time for...As long as you are creating SOMETHING it is worth posting.

The RULES (because we can't all live in peace without 'em).
1. Be nice. Critiques are good, but you gotta give constructive criticism. Don't suckapunch another artist and their ARTfight. Civility is all we've got left, so be nice or you're outta the ring.
2. CREATE SOMETHING. There are some of us who are glued to the internet waiting for you're next ARTfight, and you wouldn't want to start a riot would you? Seriously. Don't keep us waiting, draw something weekly.
3. There is an ARTfight topic, but it's full of loopholes. Each week there will be a topic (if you have a topic you want, e-mail m.ENGER and you could give ARTfighters something to fight for, or she'll pick a topic at random). The way that topic is interpreted is up to you. Do what you want with it, make it your own, and kick its ass.
4. Kick ass. Think of this as the Fight Club for art. Only, you get to talk about it. In fact, it's preferred that you talk about it. To everyone you know.

Alright. Let the ARTfight begin!
